Helen and Jim Wilsford, Principal
Authors and Developers of Phonics Too
Helen and Jim share a life-long interest in helping teachers and students. Helen is a teacher and administrator.
She received her Master's Degree from South Carolina State University. She is the editor of Phonics Too software,
book and web pages.
Jim, who is also a teacher and school administrator, received
his Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina. He served as an English teacher, intern at the Lincoln Child Development
Center, principal, associate superintendent in Savannah, Georgia, and superintendent of Orangeburg (SC) School District Five.
Jim served on the National Goals Panel as a resource person on school readiness.
Helen
and Jim were owners of The MultiMeanings Company from 1991 until 2003. The company developed and published The Star Express
for primary school students and Curriculum Online, a teacher management tool. In 1998, they authored Literacy Trails--phonics-based
literacy software--which was marketed nationally--for Sequoyah Literacy Systems. Helen and Jim
have authored and developed Phonics Too--a new generation of literacy software for beginning readers. The book: Reading, Writing,
and Phonics Too is a companion to the software.
The American Association of School Administrators
(AASA) selected Jim as National School Superintendent of the Year. Orangeburg School District Five and Jim received
the ComputerWorld-Smithsonian Award for first place in the education category for their innovative and heroic use of information
systems technology.
